TRANSLATED MEANS EMPOWERED, OR UKRAINIAN ON THE NETWORK – MUST DO!

On October 4, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading the bill draft No. 5670-д On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language. According to its provisions, websites and accounts in social networks of legal entities and individuals that offer products or services within the territory of Ukraine must have a Ukrainian version. Other versions, of course, are not prohibited, but the specificity is that the Ukrainian one must be loaded by default and contain no less information than others. The same requirements will be applicable to the media.

Currently the bill is being prepared for the second reading. If the document is approved, many companies will need to order a translation of their websites into Ukrainian. At the same time, according to the experts, it is not necessary to abandon the Russian-language version in the nearest future. While the lion’s share of users are looking for information in Russian, it is recommended to support both language versions. Otherwise, people will not find your proposals in search engines.

In addition, sellers and managers of online platforms are required to use the Ukrainian language “when distributing a commercial e-mail”. In other words, you will need to translate into Ukrainian not only websites but also mailouts, messages and other promotional materials.

How will the changes affect the work of online stores?

Ivan Bratus, marketing expert and head of the digital online store F.ua, believes that the new content will be developed taking into consideration changes in legislation. As for the existing one, most of them will not step bold to order the translation of their site into Ukrainian from a specialized specialist. They would rather choose translation with the help of online translators. Though this is not the best method. The notorious Google Translate does not capture the context, does not cope with the complex sentences, and does not understand specialized terminology … In short, too many “no”. In such a case, it would be more correct to order a technical translation of the text at a specialized agency. After all, entrusting work to professionals means getting materials that meet the business needs.

Natural question: how much does it cost to translate a website into Ukrainian at an agency? The price varies depending on many factors, from the amount of work to specialization. On average, the translation will cost about 0.50 UAH per word.

Where to apply for the translation of the website into Ukrainian?

The main argument in favor of translation agencies: a comprehensive approach and localization of sites in Ukrainian “on turnkey basis”. Here at Agenda Translations we believe that all projects are unique, so we take an individual approach to each one.

The work begins with a discussion of the list of tasks, goals and desires related to translation. We consider them and select specialists – a project manager, a translator and an editor. We create and approve a glossary, take into account keywords for future SEO-optimization. Only after that, we start working on translation of texts, localization of images, subtitling or voice-over of a video if it is necessary. All materials undergo a two-stage control: first – verification by the performer, second – audit by the editor. The content manager can place translations on the website at the client’s request. The cost of this service is formed depending on the scope of work and the CMS on which the site operates.

We are sure that only such a comprehensive approach can work out the client’s problem successfully.
